2017 Team St. Catharines Awards
For the past two years at my State of the City address, I have taken the opportunity to recognize members of Team St. Catharines in the business community.
This program was created as an opportunity to acknowledge the wonderful contributions of businesses to our city, while thanking them for being the team players that make this such a great place to live, work, and invest.
As Mayor, I have the privilege of working with business leaders, innovators, creative entrepreneurs and brave investors every day.
I make it a priority to continue to connect with businesses – attending openings, events and celebrating their anniversaries and achievements. Our local business community and employers are the economic engine of our city, collectively driving us forward as members of Team St. Catharines.

Haver & Boecker Canada – Legacy Leader
Haver & Boecker is an institution in our city and a symbol of our strong foundation in manufacturing. Previously known as W.S. Tyler, Haver & Boecker opened its St. Catharines plant in 1930 and established itself as a premium screening solutions company in mining, aggregate and industrial minerals. After many years of collaboration, W.S. Tyler was purchased by Haver & Boecker in 1998 and continues to operate its international headquarters right here in St. Catharines.
With a corporate vision to bring new approaches and technologies to the marketplace, it is no accident that Haver & Boecker has been around for more than 100 years. With deep roots and many years of experience, Haver & Boecker provides effective service to businesses around the world – putting St. Catharines on the global map of industrial innovation.
Haver & Boecker was inducted into the City of St. Catharines Legacy Leaders Program for their longstanding contribution and for continuing to invest in our City’s economic growth and future.
Penn Terra Group – Future Leader
The Penn Terra Group has become one of Niagara’s premier developers of luxury condos and student housing, with a focus on quality building and design.
Penn Terra has made its mark in our downtown and the team has been a key player in the revitalization of downtown, turning parking lots into beautiful new residential developments. With over $50 million invested in a condo building and two new student residences, Penn Terra is the reason why more and more people are choosing to live downtown.
Together the new student residences have brought more than 400 students into the core – young people, who live, study, work, and enjoy all that our city has to offer.
Penn Terra has also shown its commitment to our community as a strong supporter and sponsor of many events and fundraisers.
The Penn Terra team has also shown a sincere commitment to making progress in Niagara’s affordable housing challenges with their newest project and partnership with Bethlehem Housing at the former Royal Canadian Legion Site, downtown.
The Penn Terra Group was presented with a Future Leader award for their vision, dedication and community commitment to the investment in our City’s economic growth and future.
N’ata Cosa Ristorante Pizzeria + Catering – Future Leader
N’ata Cosa opened its doors in 2015 and is a welcome addition to our downtown sharing authentic, high end Italian food and delicious wood-fired pizza, in a warm and casual atmosphere. Through the transformation that has taken place downtown we are seeing creative, young, and independent businesses open their doors and bring new life and new tastes to St. Catharines, helping to turn downtown into a culinary destination.
Executive Chef Chris Calabrese travelled with his N’ata Cosa team to Italy this past September to teach, learn and compete at the world famous Caputo Napoli Pizza village, putting St. Catharines on the global map as a destination for delicious, authentic Italian pizza. Chris will be travelling to Las Vegas for the International Pizza Expo in March to compete on the world stage again.
N’ata Cosa was presented with a Future Leader award for their investment in our City’s economic growth and future.
Brian Cullen Motors – Legacy Leader*
Founded by Brian Cullen, former hockey player that had a career that included time with the St.Catharines Teepees – who won a Memorial Cup, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, and Buffalo Bisons. Brian has made a name for himself outside of hockey as being one of Niagara’s most well-known and trusted auto dealers. Brian Cullen Motors celebrated 50 years in business this past November.
With a strong business philosophy of focussing on outstanding customer service, Brian Cullen Motors provides a customer experience to the residents of St. Catharines and Niagara.
