Mayor Sendzik presents Key to the City to Edward Burtynsky
On Saturday June 4, Mayor Walter Sendzik presented the Key to the City to St. Catharines born, world-renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky at a special reception for nominees and sponsors of the St. Catharines Arts Awards.
“The Key to the City is bestowed upon individuals whose contributions in their career reflect positively on our hometown,” said Mayor Sendzik. “Born and raised in St. Catharines, Edward Burtynsky is an internationally renowned photographer. Through a unique perspective, Mr. Burtynsky has captured the impact of humanity on landscapes around the world. His creativity and passion for his craft has influenced a generation of photographers, filmmakers and other artists. Mr. Burtynsky has been recognized around the world for his work and it is only fitting that we present him with the Key to the City. ”
The Key to the City was presented at the inaugural Mayor’s Arts Fund Reception, an initiative launched by Mayor Sendzik to celebrate the St. Catharines Arts Awards nominees and community sponsors whose contributions will be re-invested into the arts community through the St. Catharines Cultural Investment Program known as SCCIP. Mayor Sendzik thanked the sponsors of the first Mayor’s Arts Fund Reception including event sponsor Meridian Credit Union, Partridge Wealth Management, Fallsview Casino Resort, RE/MAX Broker Alla Yousif and TAG Art Gallery and Reif Estate Winery for contributing wine for the reception.
Later in the evening Mr. Burtynsky was among the recipients of the 2016 St. Catharines Arts Awards when he was presented with the Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Award.
