Mayor’s Report – February 12, 2018.

The Mayor’s Report now coming to you online with community news and events in #ourhomestc.

I hope all have been enjoying the first weekend of the 2018 Winter Olympics – Go Canada Go!

Congratulations to Community Care St. Catharines and Thorold on a successful Mayor’s Pancake Breakfast.  I would also like to welcome the first and new CEO of the Canada 2021 Summer Games  – Wayne Parrish.

We have had lots of business activity here in St. Catharines.  Several small businesses have opened over the past couple of weeks, congratulations to: Doug Forbes and Brian Blenkinsop on opening Booster Juice, Stefan Ali opening Hourglass Barbershop downtown St. Catharines,  Alicia Yap and Olenka Allison owners of Clara Derma Medical Aesthetics & Laser Clinic, those looking to escape the cold Tripcentral just opened at the Fairview Mall operated by Richard Vanderlubbe and Paul Foster and get a head start on tax season with Liberty Tax Canada – congrats to Cam Johnson who owns that franchise.

We also have some great events coming up!  St. Catharines submitted our bid to host the 2020 Brier, visit brier2020.ca to learn more & help us be successful.  Tomorrow is Pancake Tuesday and Paczki Day – head to a polish bakery in the morning for the delicious donut, visit a church for a pancake supper and stop by Sunset Grill on 4th Ave who have a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.  Chinese New Year is on Friday ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’ to our chinese community who are celebrating the Year of the Dog.  This coming Monday is Family Day and the City of St. Catharines has lots of great family fun taking place over the weekend at the Kiwanis Aquatic Centre, Seymour Hannah, FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, the Film House and Museum – visit stcatharines.ca for more information.

We have two great community events happening next Saturday, February 24th – the YMCA ‘Move for Kids’ – where I will be spinning alongside Councillors Britton and Siscoe and then in the evening we have the Coldest Night of the Year Walk – in support of Start Me Up Niagara.  Proud to have Team STC – I encourage our residents to sign up and/or donate for this important cause in our community.

Until next time, take care – I hope to see you out throughout our City and have a great Family Day!
