This past weekend, we had many community events to raise funds for important organizations in St. Catharines. Gillian’s Place had a successful Walk a Mile in HER Shoes – raising $110,000, St. Catharines Parks and Rec had a successful annual Pumpkinville a great free event for our community and the Niagara Children’s Centre raised $40,000 at their annual Superhero run.
This past weekend the Niagara Hindu Samaj had their annual Diwali Dinner Dance – Diwali is celebrated on October 19, City of St. Catharines is hosting it’s second free tree giveaway on October 21st at Seymour Hannah, the unveiling of the Welland Canal Fallen Workers Memorial takes place Nov 12th at 2 p.m. all are invited to attend.
Congratulations to: Tom Rankin who received an honorary degree from Brock University, Rob Lapensee, city employee who will be entered into the Guinness Book of World Records (pending) for running the fastest half marathon dressed as a fruit and Carlotta Cattani, Il Gelato di Carlotta Inc. on winning the Number 3 spot at the World Gelato Festival America.
It is Small Business week and this past week I was able to visit new small businesses in our community. I encourage you to visit these businesses and support our local economy: Mostly Comics, Pocket Change, Homestead Bakery, Niagara Battery and Tire and the Grand Yard.
Also – it is Budget season and we have two open houses (Oct 24 – Seymour Hannah, Oct 26 – Kiwanis) 6-7 p.m. and the annual telephone town hall on October 25th 7-8 p.m.
