Governor General Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers Presentation
This week on behalf of His Excellency, Governor General David Johnston, I presented three St. Catharines recipients with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.
These awards celebrate individuals who give so much of themselves to others, and to thank them for their contributions.
Congratulations to Robert Burke an educator currently teaching Ridley College. Robert was recognized for his leadership and commitment to education is creating new opportunities for learning, right here in our community and around the world.
Margaret Broderick is a dedicated volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society where she provides peer support, fundraising, and helps drive patients to medical appointments as part of the Wheels of Hope program. Congratulations to Margaret for her dedicated and caring leadership is commendable.
The third recipient was Anthony Percival – who is a member of our city staff, as Registrar at the St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre. Anthony has taken on leadership roles with Search and Rescue Niagara where he is the community services coordinator and second in command. He is one of only 11 individuals in Ontario who are Train the Trainer certified.
