Mayor Sendzik welcomes IKEA to “Team St. Catharines” at official opening
St. Catharines is officially home to the newest IKEA Canada location with the opening of a new Pick-Up and Order Point today at the Fairview Mall.
Mayor Walter Sendzik and members of St. Catharines City Council joined IKEA Canada president Stefan Sjöstrand to cut the ribbon at the grand opening. Thirty new employees and an excited group of shoppers also joined in the opening ceremonies.
“It’s an exciting time in St. Catharines and I’m very pleased to welcome IKEA Canada to our community. This investment shows that St. Catharines is growing and investment ready,” stated Mayor Walter Sendzik.
IKEA was also announced as the recipient of a Team St. Catharines Business Award in a special presentation to Mr. Sjöstrand at the opening. Launched by Mayor Sendzik at his inaugural state of the city address in 2015, the Team St. Catharines Business Awards recognize the contributions of businesses and business leaders that help make St. Catharines a great play to live.
“IKEA has already shown us that they are an engaged community partner by supporting Syrian refugees as they settle into their new homes across Canada, supporting the RAFT, a local youth shelter, and by being a strong employer and supporters of the environment. We are proud to welcome such a well-respected global brand like IKEA into the local business community and to Team St. Catharines,” said Mayor Walter Sendzik.
Mr. Sjöstrand was pleased to accept the award on behalf of IKEA Canada. “I am so honoured and proud to accept this award on behalf of IKEA Canada and the new IKEA St. Catharines Pick-Up and Order Point. Thank you for welcoming IKEA into St. Catharines,we look forward to having a positive impact on the community,” said Mr. Sjöstrand.
St. Catharines Manager of Economic Development, Brian York also commented on the significance of the opening in St. Catharines.
